  • Apart from Alan Laud, this group were members of the RAF and had come together while serving at an airbase. They originally called themselves the 'Trendsetters' but soon changed this to the 'Hedgehoppers' identifying themselves with their 'day jobs' (See Note below*). They became popular performers in and around the English Fens.
On the right is illustrated an example of what "Hedgehoppers" worked on during the day! Photograph by kind permission of Dave Griffiths of the "Vulcan Restoration Trust".

In 1965, Jonathan King had written a new 'protest' song and discovered 'Hedgehoppers' while looking for a suitable singer to launch it with. After adding 'Anonymous' to the group's name the song was recorded by Mick Tinsley and a group of musicians including guitar ace, Jimmy Page. Unfortunately, due to their RAF commitments, Dash and Honeybull who had contributed to "It's Good News Week", were unable to stay with the group and were replaced by Tom Fox and Glenn Martin. Despite the enormous success of their 'black' ditty, none of the group's follow ups did very much at all and by the end of the following year the group had disbanded. Mick Tinsley made a further recording, but as a solo artist later during 1967. He is also still performing at the time of writing- Web Page

*Note: Thanks are due to Mick Tinsley for this photograph of the original group and for his own description of how the group's unusual original name came about:- "R A F Wittering, which is near Stamford Lincs,. was where we were stationed in the 60's. The 'V' BOMBERS..... Vulcans, Victors and primarily Valiants were based here, with a nuclear strike capability. 'Hedgehopping' was a nickname given to the 'V' BOMBERS for the skilled pilots who flew these aircraft a few hundred feet above the ground , flying under enemy radar, to avoid detection and ground to air missiles.....hairy stuff! great guys! This is where the groups name idea came from. The Vulcans were finally armed with the 'Blue Steel Missile'. I was a corporal technican working on navigation and bombing systems."
